Best Individual Blog 2013

I probably shouldn't be advertising another blog on my blog but to be perfectly honest I didn't know that best individual Food Blog was actually an award in the James Beard Awards. I now have something really tangible to aspire to. The winner in 2013 was Honest Food and I must say its a great blog to follow. If your a hunter or angler then this is a great blog for you, it has a lot of good recipes using in season produce as well as wild game that the avid hunter will usually have in their seasonal catches. More than just recipes is the authors reflections on hunting, fishing and using your own garden as the primary source for your recipes.
I have barely scratched the surface with this blog, but i can already tell its going to be one of my favorites and is bookmarked in my cooking folder (which i strongly suggest to anyone to have). So far i've seen two recipes that caught my eye if your looking for a quick link. The first is a recipe for Chinese Plum Sauce. It looks great and looks like something i'm going to play around with since I love asian recipes and have most of the ingredients available. At first glance I don't think I can get fresh plums here in Santiago, Chile (where i currently live), so i'm going to have a lot of fun plugging in different ingredients and seeing what comes out.
The second is a recipe for Candied Smoked Salmon. Full disclosure I absolutely love Jerky. Anything that can be Jerked i'm going to find a way to try it out. Here in Chile, Salmon is in abundance considering that this is where the worlds largest Atlantic Salmon fish farm is located but unfortunately I don't have a smoker. This is something i'm going to keep on the back burner because as soon as I can get the ingredients together this will be done.

James Beard Award Winners 2013

While we may be a few months late with these announcements, the James Beard Awards were presented in May and at least to me it looks like New York City cleaned up the food oscars again with winners in Best Restaurant Design (75 seats and under), Outstanding Service, Outstanding Pastry Chef, Outstanding Restauranteur, Rising Star Chef of the Year, Outstanding Restaurant and Outstanding
Chef.
I might just be biased as a born and raised New Yorkers but if your looking for the best and most diverse restaurants in the world, you just cant beat New York City. Congrats to all the winners, the full list can be seen HERE

What are the biggest no-no's when it comes to cooking Brisket

SUMMERTIME!!! Is there anything better in the summertime than some cold beer and good BBQ? Coming from pit master Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue in Austin, TX via FoodandWine.com, this article is not so much of how to cook an amazing brisket, but a what not to do when cooking brisket. Its a good article and in my opinion, anytime a Pit Master has some tips for you regarding BBQ, its time to listen. You can see the full article HERE.

Welcome to HomeStarCooking

Hello Everyone, my name is Marley Burr and this is my new Blog HomeStarCooking. I've had this idea for a while and this is going to be the first step towards what hopefully will be a full website for cookings news, recipes and videos. I'll be doing what I can with HomeStarCooking here while the full site is developed and gets ready to launch.
The goal of this website right now is to consolidate food news and recipes from around the world. We want to make it as interactive as possible so readers please send in your recipes with pictures or your videos so that we can upload them directly or try them out ourselves.
Eventually I want this website to be the number 1 place to go for food news, articles, information and user submitted recipes and videos. For our users to be able to create their own profiles with links to their favorite recipes and blogs as well as upload the most cooking videos anywhere online. Remember, at Home Star Cooking there are no professional chefs and your the cooking star.
